THE PROPERTY

There is far too much to say about our beautiful land and hopefully beautiful house (one day!) for one page so this section is broken up into several sections. Click on the links below for more detail...

THE RESIDENT WILDLIFE

THE LOCAL AREA

THE RESIDENT WILDLIFE

Our land is home to many species of birds, animals and plants. When we first bought the property it was very dry after a protracted period of drought. In the winter of 2006/7 there was some good rain and the land really burst into life with mosses, funghi, orchids and grasses. The land is classified as Box Ironbark or Low Rises Grassy Woodland (depending on who you ask) where the predominant trees are Grey Box and Yellow Box. Both of these forest types are endangered after over 100 years of extensive clearing in Southeast Australia so we are delighted to do our bit to protect some of the remnant.

Birdlife on the block is prolific. During a short stroll in the morning you can be overwhelmed by the sheer number and noise of the birds. Commonly seen species include White-browed Babbler, Jacky Winter, Eastern Rosella, Dusky Woodswallow (summer), White-winged Chough and Yellow-tufted Honeyeater. Native mammals include Echidna, Koala, Tuan and Ring-tailed Possum. There are also several endangered species in the local area not yet recorded on our land including Painted Honeyeater, Brolga and Growling Grass Frog.
